Currumbin Renovation

Perched above the Pacific Ocean at Currumbin on the Gold Coast, this project is a transformation of a dated, two storey brick home, into a light-filled, family beach retreat. New spaces arranged over two levels are designed to embrace the ocean views, sunny climate and relaxed beach lifestyle. The existing deck and rear facade were removed to create a new kitchen, living and dining room that open onto a covered deck. The previous low ceilings were replaced with exposed trusses to create volume to embrace the ocean and sky views. The plywood ceiling continues outside to cover the deck, blurring the boundary between inside and outside. Natural materials in a light colour palette were selected to amplify the natural setting and create a relaxed beach house.

"Marjorie and Leah’s positive and enthusiastic approach to the project meant that they came up with creative solutions to repurpose the existing structure. The resultant new spaces are beautiful and maximise on ocean views. We couldn’t be happier with the design and it’s become the hub of our extended family."
